John “Woody” Grange served in WWII as a pilot in the 417th.  He passed away in 2003, but prior to that, John was interviewed by his nephew about his experience with the 417th and the war.   John’s nephew got in touch with me recently and provided me with access to the video story he created from the interview.

To watch the interview, go to  the Video Stories page, or click on the link below which will bring you directly to the interview on You Tube.

  1. Just found your interview with Woody. I knew Woody when he was a spin lathe operator at AiResearch Mfg. Co. in 1951. We were both working swing shift at the time so I got to chat with him on our lunch breaks. We also hunted ducks and deer together in the mid 50s.
I was surprised to read that Woody was from South Dakota as was I.
So I wanted to thank you for keeping that memory alive through this video.

    1. Glad you enjoyed the post and thanks for sharing your memory about Woody. Woody’s nephew gets full credit for making the video and providing it to me for posting on the site.
